Electric Safety: When to Call Electricians’ Help

No matter how handy you are, there are times when you really need to call for professional help. Even when you think you can do it yourself by following instructions online, it’s not wise to try to fix things on your own and risk everyone’s safety.

Doing electrical repairs can be dangerous. That’s why you have to call in the electricians and let them take care of your electrical issues. But sometimes you don’t actually know when it’s serious so here are some signs you need to watch out for:

Damaged Wires

You can tell when there are visibly damaged wires. In older homes or remodeled houses, this is a common issue. Exposed wires can result in electrical shock. Get them fixed immediately.

Flickering of Lights

If you notice your lights flickering, it is a sign of an electrical problem. When you use too many appliances at the same time, this could happen. These appliances draw a lot of current and puts pressure on the motor.

Sparking Outlets or Hot Switches and Electrical System Surfaces

When your switches and other electrical system surfaces are too hot to touch, you need to call an electrician. Sparking outlets and hot switches/electrical system surfaces can lead to fire and Electrocution when left unchecked.

Burning Smell

Observing a burning smell after you plug something in an outlet can be an indicator of a serious electrical damage. Monitor where the smell came from and call an electrician as soon as possible.

Electrical Circuit-Breakers Trip Often

Breaker tripping means that the system is preventing overheating of overloaded wires. If the electrical circuit-breakers regularly trip it could mean that the electrical system cannot handle the current being drawn to it. This can cause fire. You need to call an electrician immediately.
